A New Way to Cook Corn on the Cob

I saw this recently on pinterest and could not wait to try it.  It promised juicy, easy to peel corn and claimed the silk would fall right off.

It works!  Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.  Place the corn with husks intact on the oven racks and bake for 30 minutes.

Remove it and peel back the husks.  The silk sticks together and peels right off with the husk.  Instead of boiling flavor out of the corn, it holds in the heat and steams it making it sweet and juicy.  Much easier and better than any other way I have ever prepared it.

The Blog Tech and I were in the garden at sunup this morning.  He is keeping a close eye on everything for his salsa.  He can't wait to have his first ingredients ready to pick.  We have been collaborating on a recipe.  It is fun to garden with someone who is doing it for the first time and seeing it through his eyes.

Then we dove into making my zucchini casserole for the shelter.  Here is the recipe: http://octoberfarm.blogspot.com/2010/06/trick-your-kids-with-treat.html

This is a terrific old fashioned recipe that even people that don't like zucchini gobble up.  We made so much and it was so hard to mix that a large metal spoon broke while stirring it.

We made about 40 quarts of it.  I can't wait to hear how they guys liked it.

Unfortunately corn is seldome sold with the husks here and rarely fresh either. Freezed or canned. We only grow varieties that can make it during our cool and short summers and they are good food for animals but not us humans.

Yes it is fun gardening with someone that never done it before :-)

Have a great day!
Christer.

I'll help eat that Zucchini Casserole! Yes, extra heavy duty implements are needed to stir up THAT much of anything!

I have made your zucchini casserole many times since you first posted it. OMG it is so so good. Now I am going to try that corn method, though we usually cook it on the grill.
I hope the Blog Tech can be patient for his tomatoes to ripen.

Not a big fan of corn on the cob, they get stuck between my teeth. But I LOVE to peel them. We had an old tradition in Quebec, around harvest time, to go to peeling corn parties. I don't know if it is much practised anymore.

My favorite way to cook corn is on the grill in the husk! Same thing, the silk comes right off & it tastes amazing! Your casserole sounds amazing!

How great that the blog tech likes to work with you in the garden and for the shelter. He's a real keeper!! Thanks for the corn idea. I will be trying it when good corn comes in.
I can't wait to try it either. We eat a lot of corn on the cob and this sounds like a great way to prepare it. I don't boil mine but do heat the water to boiling, turn off the stove and put the corn in, the lid on and in ten minutes it's ready...but this...this sounds like a great idea. Thanks for passing on this tip!
p.s. I completely agree with Jan/Autumn Dreams...totally and completely! GREAT folks!! Proud to know you..really proud!!
Brilliant - I think I will never now do corn anyway else.
Must try this with corn, when our local corn is ready.

We have water boiling and drop ears in, for 2 min.! Then out they come. So we don't boil it much. :-)

Great to see the pics of the Blog Tech, learning to have fun with gardening. And helping you with the shelter food too!!!

Broke a metal spoon! Now that is a hard stir!!!!!!!!!!!!! He will be building more muscles, as well as feeding the homeless!
