I made an igloo cheese ball for my little friends. One of them said he wants to take me to show and tell at his school. Ha ha!
I have a little story to tell you today because Christmas came early to a bunch of us last night. About 7 months ago, I decided to change my will. I thought, why leave money to people that are living good lives and not wanting for much? Instead, I thought, why not try to make a change and do something different. So, I picked the poorest community in our area and designated them as the beneficiary of a hefty insurance policy. Unusual? Yes! But it worked. For the last 6 months, very dedicated people worked very hard to find matching funds from organizations and last night it all came together. We were able to make all of this work to a great advantage. Last night, a vote was taken and a group of compassionate people unanimously voted YES!
Teddy's normal morning position in front of the stove, praying something drops to the floor.
As of today, students living in this small impoverished town will now be eligible to receive full scholarships to colleges or trade schools. All they have to do is keep their grades up. There is no time period either, this goes on indefinitely.
These kids had no hope of finding funds for college before. Many of them gave up and dropped out of school altogether. Why work hard at getting good grades when there is no hope for attending college? Now they have a chance.
Sometimes thinking outside the box is a very good thing.

Christer.
P.S. You've got mail.
Not only with your time, also your talents, your money....
Merry Christmas.
People scoff at "the poor" as if it's their fault and their lazy. Yes, some are but these people here are some are the hardest working folk I have ever met. They don't want the life they have but they never had that opportunity you are now offering these kids. All it takes is that hope and a child's whole world can change.
it would've made all the difference knowing while in school the rent would be paid , food & childcare taken care of & no debt after finishing school .
in the end life went on & now my 3rd child is our first child in university . he is single so he felt he could take on loans & already has job in forestry here for summer months but I can't help but worry about his loan issue once he is out . he at least does not have a family to support yet . he may get some funding yet via the metis /aboriginal center but there are many in line to access funding .
so you can see I really mean it when I say your steps in creating means for people to access education really can mean a big change in choices people have &open options not there before .
Thanks so much for sharing & it is so good to see Teddy again & all your yummilisous goodies <3
