Kentucky Butter Cake

This is such a good pound cake.  It is dense and moist with a crunchy sugar shell.

Heavily butter and flour a bundt pan.

Ingredients
Cake
  • 1 cup butter, cubed at room temperature
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon  salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk
Mix all of this together with the paddle attachment of your mixer and pour it into the pan.  Bake it at 325 degrees for about 75 minutes or until a toothpick stuck in the cake comes out clean.

Just before the cake is done baking, make the sauce:

Butter Glaze
  • ⅓ cup butter
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
Cook this over medium heat just until the sugar dissolves.  Do not let this boil.

Remove the cake from the oven.

Poke the cake all over with a knife.

Ladle the sauce all over the cake.

Let it soak in before adding more sauce.

Let the cake cool completely before removing it from the pan.

Flip the cake out onto a plate.

This cake actually is better after sitting for a day.

My kind of cake. I'd have it with tea during a Dungeons & Dragons gaming session, but that's just the geek in me.

Have a great day!

I've been making this cake almost once a month for about 10 years, it's my family's favorite! I take it to picnics, parties, etc and it's loved by everyone. A fabulous recipe.

That looks so good! More heat coming mid -week. When the weather people get excited about .1 or.2 of an inch of rain, you know we are in a drought!! Thanks for the sympathy!

I do like a good bundt cake and that looks very good indeed. Yum!
I would have it with a scoop of homemade ice cream, vanilla, and hot tea..OR coffee. I love both!
p.s. Would a "dollop" in the coffee be permissable? :) Perfect!!
