A Christmas Party for the After School Kids

With a heavy heart I made the kids the last food I'll feed them until the New Year.  I do admit I can use a break from cooking but I'll worry about them so much over the holidays.  I started by making them a big meat and cheese platter.  This platter is almost 3 feet wide so there is tons of food on it for them.

Baskets of sourdough pretzels and peanut M&M's.  I'm sure the candy will vanish fast.

Everyone's favorite peanut butter cups and caramels.

Then I made a cheese ball.

And turned it into an igloo.

And decorated it with olive penguins.
I'm sure the kids will get a kick out of this.

I finished the cooking by baking two large sheets of gingerbread squares.  I sent them lots of crackers and homemade mustards and jellies, and pickles to eat with the meat and cheese.

Can understand how your heart feels heavy with concern for your Kids
but that crown should rest lightly on your head... You are their Angel, indeed... A blessed Christmastide to you and yours.

Don't let your heart get too heavy; they obviously didn't starve to death up to this point, so they should be okay for two weeks. They're bottomless pits at this age, and I know they'll miss your incredible food, but you can't let it bring you down. Plus you need a rest! I can't imagine this is any less cooking than it was for the men's shelter, and you about wore yourself out. (Not to mention your stove and mixers)

It's too bad you can't give them a cooking lesson now and then at the site; I'd be willing to bet you have gotten more than one of them interested in cooking and exploring new foods...

That igloo is just so cute and very creative on your part. I'm glad you give the kids such wonderful treats as I'm sure they don't see this very often. Thank you for all you do.

One can only hope their christmas isn't too bad and they do have something to look forward to. You're giving them a fantastic feast at the end of the year.

Have a great day!

Christer.

I hope your kids will get enough to eat over the holiday. There are many groups that reach out if they know to contact them. I know some schools send home extra foods in the needy little ones back packs for the weekend.
Your food has to be such a treat for them. I know from being a director of an after school program the budget for food is low.
Thank you for being there for these children.
Merry Christmas.

Oh that igloo! Love the igloo. Almost too cute to eat. Almost.
I've always loved seeing your cheeseball igloos -- and those penguins are just TOO cute!

You are an amazing person. I can only imagine their eyes when they saw this food coming into their room. You are one very special woman and I am so happy I found your blog a few years ago. I am praying other organizations can step up and supply some goodies for them while at home during the holidays. I worked with abused children for yrs til retirement and remember how people would make an impact on their hearts doing the things like you and your son are doing for them. Sad most only do it for Christmas, you do it all year long. You are an angel! Rest and enjoy your family. Merry Christmas!

I do not know how you do it all. And especially how NOT to worry about these precious ones. You are a sweetheart in every sense of the word to them all.
