Chocolate Chip Date and Walnut Cookies

 From now until February, I will be testing lots of cookie recipes for a cookie table I will be doing for friends that are getting married.  These chocolate chip, date and walnut cookies are  a new recipe I tried.  I don't know whether these will make the final cut but they were a huge hit with my husband, The Blog tech and his wife.  Here's the recipe if you want to give them a try:


  • 2 & 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 & 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 & 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips

  • * Cream the wet ingredients and then mix in the dry.  Place large scoops (use an ice cream scooper) on  parchment covered cookie sheets, leaving about 3 inches in between each one.  Chill in the refrigerator for about 45 minutes. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 18-20 minutes, just until they begin to turn brown on the edges.  Cool on the sheets for 10 minutes and then transfer to a rack to cool.

     I just wanted to talk about this wonderful little boy, Willie.

     What an addition he is to our family.  He is the sweetest little dude and he loves his big sister, Winnie.  He has had a problem with his right eye since we got him just over 3 months ago.  The vet will fix it when he is neutered later this week.  Other than that, he is perfect.

    Except for when he breaks.  How can this be comfortable?

    Mmmm, I love anything with dates in it.
    Walnuts are my favorite nuts and dates, well I can't stop eating them when I've started so this is a must do!

    They are both absolutely adorable. So happy it has worked out well with the W's!!! The cookies look delish. I would like to be a volunteer to be a taste-tester for your cookie baking!!

    I'm not a fan of dates, but you got me at chocolate chips.
    I am a 2xs a week cookie baker. I will try all your recipes as I know they will all be good. I will put dates on my grocery list now.

    Walnuts, dates , and chocolate sound like a winning combination. My mother always made a cookie called Michigan Rocks, which had dates and walnuts.
