Labor Day Baking

Happy Labor Day!  The end of Summer has finally arrived but the weather hasn't heard the news.  She is still in a very summertime mood. So, I decided to do some baking in the new kitchen to see how it works.  I made this wonderful caramel glazed pumpkin cake.  Bite me Summer, it's time for pumpkin!

I hadn't made this pie in years and I forgot how much everyone loves it:

Blueberry Goat Cheese and Basil Pie

I know it sounds awful but believe me, this is one of the best pies I make.

I pulled out The Beast, the new wolf mixer.  WOW!  This thing works like a commercial mixer. There is so much room on the island too. And the attached table allows people to sit and eat while they watch me cook.  Not that anyone does but it could happen. On the back left is the baking pantry.  It is wonderful to have a place dedicated to holding just baking supplies.

The red bowl on the island goes with this set of mason cash bowls from their 'Forest' series. I love them.

I actually do have an audience and the best kind of all.  The W's take turns laying in the other pantry where they have a slightly elevated view of me cooking.  Willie is hoping that I am making his favorite biscuits.  Sorry Wils, not this time.

I was making a Scandinavian almond cake.

I also made a vanilla buttermilk cake with a crunchy almond and coconut topping.

Winnie takes her turn in the pantry.  The pantry has it's own A/C unit so it is very cool and the pups literally chill in there.

Though Willie knows how to let me know when he is ready to go for a walk.  I hope you have a good unofficial last day of Summer and have lots of yummy things to eat.

That pumpkin cake looks delicious! I've never had that kind of cake before, I wish I was there to ask if I could have a bite. My wife has made me pumpkin squash many times, and I absolutely love it!

Oh, my goodness, that pie also looks delicious! I love blueberries, goat cheese, and basil!

Those other two cakes, look delicious too!

I can just imagine how much Winnie and Willie, wish you'd accidently drop a piece from those cakes and pie! I know if I were them, I sure would!
Everything looks delicious of course but what caught my eye is that wonderful long rug with the rabbit, pinecones, owl, oak leaves and squirrel on it!

Baking in your new kitchen must be a real joy. The Wolf mixer looks like it was made for you. Your pies and cakes look outstanding. Each one is a piece of art. The W's clearly enjoy the new kitchen space and love being close. I'm sure they appreciate the AC too. In unison, let's say "goodbye" to Summer... Maybe it will happen?

I would fly 2nd Man out there and he'd gladly sit at that table and soak up all your knowledge, ha.

Love it all, just wonderful.
I loved your rug, too. Could you share where you bought it? Thanks.
I love the rug with the bunny. And, a pantry with its own ac...wonderful. I see you have a stash of tomato products. Everything about these pictures is so nice. Are those bowls as heavy as they look?
