Fresh Orange Pound Cake

First I want to thank everyone for your help and good wishes.  I thawed all of my pipes and everything is fine except for the constant slow flow of hot water coming out of the faucet in my bathtub.  I am about to try to fix it and I sure hope I am successful!  Meanwhile, I made this cake and it sure is good.

You can use a bundt pan or two loaf pans for this recipe.

Pour 3 cups of sugar into your mixer bowl.

Add 1 C. unsalted butter and 1/2 C shortening.  Beat this until fluffy and add 5 L. eggs, 1 T. baking powder and 3/4 tsp. salt. Beat with the paddle attachment until blended.

Add 6 T. orange juice and the zest of 1 orange.  Then beat in 1 C. milk alternating with 3 C. flour.

Grease your pan and flour it.

Pour the batter into the pan.

Don't fill it too full or it will spill over as you can see.  As if my oven could get any dirtier!  Bake it at 350 degrees for about 60-90 minutes.  Test the middle with a toothpick.

Remove it from the oven and let it sit for 15 minutes.  Turn it out from the pan and let it cool on a rack.

Mix some confectioners sugar with some orange juice to make a glaze and drizzle it over the cake while it is still warm.
